Important backup principle
No backup tool should be your only copy of important data. Test restores regularly, maintain independent copies, monitor available disk space, and confirm that completed backups are usable before relying on them.
1. Agreement to these terms
By accessing the Simple WP Backup website, installing or using the plugin, or using an optional Simple WP Backup connection or support service, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the applicable product or service.
If you use Simple WP Backup for an organization, you confirm that you have authority to accept these terms for that organization.
2. What Simple WP Backup provides
Simple WP Backup provides WordPress backup, scheduling, storage, import, transfer, restore, recovery, verification, health, and diagnostic functionality. Some features operate entirely within your WordPress installation; optional features may communicate with Google Drive or a Simple WP Backup connection service.
Features may change as the plugin is improved. Free and premium features, if offered, may differ. We will not intentionally remove access to a paid entitlement without an appropriate replacement, migration, or remedy required by applicable law.
3. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Having authority to back up, transfer, restore, and process the website and data involved.
- Maintaining secure WordPress, hosting, database, email, and Google account credentials.
- Testing backups and restores in an appropriate environment before relying on them.
- Maintaining sufficient storage, server resources, and independent backup copies.
- Reviewing restoration targets, URLs, database prefixes, user-handling choices, and safety snapshot options.
- Complying with privacy, employment, contractual, export, and other laws applicable to the content you process.
- Keeping WordPress, Simple WP Backup, and relevant server software updated.
You must not use the plugin to access, transfer, or restore a site without authorization.
4. Google Drive and third-party services
Google Drive is an optional storage destination. When you connect it, you authorize the plugin to use the permissions shown on Google’s consent screen. Google services are provided under Google’s own terms and policies, and their availability, quotas, account rules, and API behavior are outside our control.
You may disconnect Google Drive from the plugin and revoke access through your Google Account. Disconnecting authorization does not automatically delete backup files already stored in Drive. You remain responsible for reviewing and deleting those files when appropriate.
Simple WP Backup is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google LLC. Google Drive is a trademark of Google LLC.
5. Software license and intellectual property
The Simple WP Backup WordPress plugin is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later (GPL-2.0-or-later), as stated in the distributed plugin files. Your rights to use, study, modify, and redistribute the plugin are governed by that license.
The Simple WP Backup name, website design, documentation, original graphics, and other project materials may be protected by trademark, copyright, and other laws. The GPL license for plugin code does not grant permission to misrepresent modified software as an official Simple WP Backup release or misuse project branding.
6. Acceptable use
You may not use the website, plugin, connection service, or support systems to:
- Break laws, infringe rights, or process data without permission.
- Distribute malware, attack systems, bypass access controls, or interfere with service operation.
- Probe, overload, abuse, or circumvent limits of a hosted connection endpoint.
- Misrepresent your identity, the plugin’s origin, or authorization to operate a WordPress site or Google account.
- Use credentials, connection requests, emergency recovery links, or Site Transfer keys belonging to another party without permission.
7. Availability, updates, and support
We aim to provide reliable software and services, but do not promise uninterrupted availability or compatibility with every host, plugin, theme, database, security rule, or server configuration. Maintenance, third-party outages, resource limits, network failures, or security measures may affect operation.
Support availability and response times may depend on the release channel or plan. Diagnostic information you provide should be redacted and limited to what is necessary for troubleshooting.
8. Backup and restore limitations
Backup completion, integrity checks, safety snapshots, emergency recovery, and post-restore verification reduce risk but cannot eliminate it. Backups can fail or become unusable because of disk errors, incomplete source data, permission changes, database behavior, encryption-key loss, corrupted archives, unsupported hosting restrictions, third-party changes, or events outside the plugin’s control.
Restoration can overwrite files, database records, configuration, users, URLs, and other website state. Review every restore choice carefully. Preserve independent copies and use a staging environment when practical.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the website, plugin, documentation, and connected services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of uninterrupted operation, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, data preservation, or compatibility with every environment.
Nothing in these terms excludes warranties or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Simple WP Backup and its contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; loss of data, revenue, profits, business, reputation, or access; restoration mistakes; or costs of substitute services arising from use or inability to use the product or services.
Where liability cannot be excluded, it will be limited to the greater of the amount you paid directly for the affected Simple WP Backup service during the preceding twelve months or the minimum amount required by applicable law. This limitation does not apply where prohibited by law.
11. Suspension, disconnection, and termination
You may stop using the plugin at any time. You can disconnect Google Drive, remove plugin data using available controls, and uninstall the plugin. We may suspend access to a hosted connection or support service when reasonably necessary to address security, abuse, legal requirements, or material violations of these terms.
Provisions concerning ownership, disclaimers, liability, and other terms that by their nature should survive will continue after termination.
12. General terms
If part of these terms is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain effective. A delay in enforcing a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer contractual rights to a hosted service without our consent where consent is permitted by law; we may transfer these terms as part of a legitimate project or organizational transition.
Applicable mandatory consumer protections and laws remain unaffected. Any governing-law or dispute requirements published for a particular paid plan or contracting entity will supplement these terms.
We may update these terms to reflect product, security, legal, or operational changes. The revised version will be posted with a new effective date. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
